Cape Verde is an Archipelago
of ten islands lying like a jewelled necklace off the coast
of West Africa.
And how they sparkle.
Until recently Cape Verde's beauty was largely kept a secret – the long
beaches of endless white sand, lapped by turquoise ocean: the historical mystery
of colonial style towns like Ribeira Grande the first European City in the
tropics: the wide variety of landscapes – from dramatic volcanic – to
lush and verdant.
If you enjoy fine beaches, beautiful scenery, vibrant cultures and have a sense
of adventure Cape Verde will not disappoint.
The beach stretches on for miles, the silvery fronds of a palm tree whisper
in the breeze and the sun shines down. It´s the Caribbean without the
long haul – and without the hefty price tag!
The climate is classed as dry tropical with an average temperature ranging
between 21C to 31C with water temperatures between 22C and 27C. There are 2
seasons, a dry season between November and July and a comparatively moderate
humid season between August and October. Daily sunshine averages 6 to 7 hours
between August and October and 10 to 12 hours for the rest of the year.
Luxury hotel resorts and tourist villages are being built, foreign investment
is at an all-time high and property buyers all over Europe are now turning
their attention to this fascinating archipelago.
And with the closest tropical islands to Europe soon to be little more than
a five hour flight from London the islands are hurriedly expanding their tourism
infrastructure.
Cape Verde may not yet be on the lips of many people as an emerging world tourist
destination – but it soon will be!
